Three Ways To Spend a Family Vacation in Granada, Spain

Three Ways To Spend a Family Vacation in Granada, Spain

Posted on

If you plan on getting away from chilly, dour weather present further north in Europe this winter, and excellent place to take your family without breaking the budget on a trip to the tropics is Granada, Spain. While you might not be able to go swimming at this time of year, the mild weather present in the winter will still allow you to bask in the lukewarm sun on most days.

The kids will grow restless after a few days of this though, so it is important you come up with some activities that will keep them engaged and interested throughout the course of your Spanish getaway. The following suggestions will get them outside in the fresh air, as well as teach them about things they probably aren’t being taught about in schools these days. Let’s begin, shall we?

1. Walk through Parque Federico Garcia Lorca or go skiing in the hills: the choice is yours

Depending on your child’s interests and your/their tolerance for cold, you have a pair of intriguing options available to you if you wish to do something active with them. Those wanting to embrace winter for a day can go skiing in the hills outside Granada, where Sierra Nevada Ski awaits.

Ski school is available for less experienced, and ice rinks are there for those that no desire to hurl themselves off a peak. Parque Federico Garcia Lorca is a lower key option, as numerous paths, a duck pond, and a museum all can be found by wanderers here.

2. Pique their curiosity at the Science Park

Pique their curiosity at the Science Park

One of the better science centers in Europe can be found in Granada, making it a solid choice for parents looking to spend an afternoon inside on one of the rare rainy days that can hit here on occasion. Those worried about having their kids grapple with Spanish only displays shouldn’t, as they are all bilingual, making for an excellent language learning opportunity on top of all the science on offer.

Numerous exhibits on popular scientific topics are available, in addition to a tropical butterfly garden and an observation tower, so be prepared to be here for a while!

3. Teach them about history by touring The Alhambra

Your visit to Granada shouldn’t conclude without a family trip to The Alhambra. No history book could match the opportunity to touch the ancient Moorish compound, walk its many courtyards and admire its arches and reflecting pools. Passes to this attractions sell out well in advance, so arrange your tickets before setting out on your family vacation in Granada.
